A solar panel absorbs the sunlight and traps the heat behind the glass panels. That heat is transferred to a fluid which is pumped around the panel and returned to transfer its heat via a coil to the water in your hot water cylinder. So when you run your bath all that hot water has been heated for free by the sun.
Your cylinder will have 2 coils, the solar coil in the bottom can heat the whole cylinder whereas the second coil can heat just the top section via heat from a boiler. This means on days when there is not enough light the solar panels will heat the water in the cylinder so far and the boiler will top up the heat to the pre-set temperature on the cylinder stat. On a good sunny day the solar panels will heat the whole cylinder without the need for the boiler to come on therefore in either case saving you money.
The result of this is during the summer months your boiler will hardly be used at all and even in the short days of winter the panels are still working tirelessly to contribute heat into the cylinder meaning your boiler does not have to work to provide all the heat.

You will see on our site we have only listed prices for flat plate collectors as we feel these are the most versatile panel and adapt to most situations.
